THE PURPOSE OF FIRST JOHN

 

The First Epistle of John is one of the three books of Scripture most often used to support the notion that man's works are necessary to secure eternal salvation before God.  (The other two are James, specifically chapter 2, and the Epistle to the Hebrews.)
