The Modern "Testimony"

Modern Testimony No. 1

The following "testimony" was is copied verbatim from a baptism ceremony at Family Community Church, a seeker friendly church in San Jose, California.  Only personal names have been altered.  You should compare it to the Biblical standards of one's testimony, and grade it on its effectiveness in helping others to come to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ.

If you are in a small group, you should also attempt to draw some reasonable inferences on the level of discipleship, and the quality of gospel preaching that was taking place in the church that was baptizing this individual.

I began my journey with Christ as an adult, just four years ago.  I had been searching in my heart to start attending church.  I had only attended as a kid, up until about 10 years old.  A friend invited me to Saddleback church, and I was hooked.  I began seeking ministries, and join the financial counseling ministry at Saddleback.  After two years, I realized I didn't get connected with any particular small group, nor did their singles ministry catch my attention or my heart.  When I moved up to San Jose, I was invited to FCC the first week at work.  Art Adamson asked me to come to service.  I attended the singles Thursday night study and was welcomed into a small group table by Art Adamson, then to lunch on Sunday with the group.  I can still remember those first days with FCC.  Since then, I took the Alpha class 101, 201, 301, small group leadership, joined the worship team and helped in many other ministries.  I've never had the need or desire to attend any other church.  FCC has been my home and family since I moved out here two years ago, and I now co-lead a home small group with Art Adamson, and lead a table on Wednesday night singles group.  FCC has helped me grow in my relationship with the Lord, and I like to share my baptism with all my friends that I've made here.  I can't believe that just writing this has brought tears to my eyes, thinking about all that the FCC family has brought into my life.
