Q. What is the thematic development of the first two chapters of the Epistle to the Hebrews?
A.
1) Jesus is the eternal Son of God who humbled himself and became a man.
2) As a man, Jesus was faithful, and holy.
3) Because of His faithfulness and holiness, Jesus is exalted with the Crown of Glory in heaven. (1:9, 2:13, 2:18). See also (3:2, 5:7-8, 10:12-13).
4) When he returns, Jesus will realize this glory as heir of all things. He will subdue the nations and rule them with a rod of iron.
5) Jesus inexorably linked himself to Adams race through his incarnation. He is truly the Son of Man.
6) If a man follows Jesus example of holiness and faithfulness, he will share in Jesus' destiny to rule over the world to come. (2:10 ff, 5:9, 6:19-20, 12:1-2)
